Speaker Configurations
This section describes some typical speaker configurations that you can choose with the SPA25. For details of setting up each configuration see the next chapter Setting up speakers.
Note: In the following diagrams the connection to each stereo pair of loudspeakers is shown as a single line, for clarity. Follow the R and L labels on the back panel when connecting each loudspeaker in a pair.
2.0 Stereo system
Uses speakers for Front Left and Front Right:
Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:
- Front L&R – Front
- Center – OFF
- Surround L&R – OFF
- Height L&R – OFF
- Surr. Back L&R – OFF
Then connect up the speakers as follows:
- Connect the Front Left and Front Right speaker outputs to the Front Left and Right speakers, following the R and L labels on the back panel.
- Set the crossover frequency for the Front Left and Front Right speakers to Full Range; see Setting up speakers: Crossover.
2.0 Bi-Amp system
Allows you to bi-amp to Front Left and Front Right speakers with separate bass and treble units:
Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:
- Front L&R – Front
- Center – OFF
- Surround L&R – OFF
- Height L&R – Bi-Amp Front
- Surr. Back L&R – OFF
Then connect up the speakers as follows:
- Connect the Front Left and Front Right speaker outputs to the bass units of the Front Left and Right speakers, and the Height Left and Height Right speaker outputs to the treble units of the Front Left and Right speakers, following the R and L labels on the back panel.
- Set the crossover frequency for the Front Left, Front Right, Height Left, and Height Right speakers to Full Range, to use the crossovers in the speakers; see Setting up speakers: Crossover.
5.1 Dolby/DTS system
Uses speakers for Front Left, Front Right, and Centre, and Surround Left and Right:
Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:
- Front L&R – Front
- Center – ON
- Surround L&R – ON
- Height L&R – OFF
- Surr. Back L&R – OFF
Then connect up the speakers, following the R and L labels on the back panel for each pair of speakers.
5.1 Bi-Amp system
Bi-Amps to the Front Left and Right speakers, and provides Centre, and Surround Left and Right:
Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:
- Front L&R – Front
- Center – ON
- Surround L&R – ON
- Height L&R – Bi-Amp Front
- Surr. Back L&R – OFF
Then connect up the speakers, following the R and L labels on the back panel for each pair of speakers.
7.1 Dolby/DTS system
Uses speakers for Front Left and Right, Centre, Surround Left and Right, and Surround Back Left and Right:
Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:
- Front L&R – Front
- Center – ON
- Surround L&R – ON
- Height L&R – OFF
- Surr. Back L&R – Surr. Back
Then connect up the speakers, following the R and L labels on the back panel for each pair of speakers.
7.1 Bi-Amp system
Bi-Amps to the Front Left and Right speakers, and provides Centre, Surround Left and Right, and Surround Back Left and Right:
Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:
- Front L&R – Front
- Center – ON
- Surround L&R – ON
- Height L&R – Bi-Amp Front
- Surr. Back L&R – Surr. Back
Then connect up the front speakers as follows:
- Connect the Front Left and Right speaker outputs to the bass units of the Front Left and Right speakers, and the Height Left and Right speaker outputs to the treble units of the Front Left and Right speakers, following the R and L labels on the back panel.
- Set the crossover frequency for the Front Left, Front Right, Height Left, and Height Right speakers to Full Range, to use the crossovers in the speakers; see Setting up speakers: Crossover.
5.1.2 Dolby Atmos/DTS:X system
Uses speakers for Front Left and Right, Centre, Surround Left and Right, and Height Left and Right:
Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:
- Front L&R – Front
- Center – ON
- Surround L&R – ON
- Height L&R – Top Middle
- Surr. Back L&R – OFF
Then connect up the speakers, following the R and L labels on the back panel for each pair of speakers.
7.1.2 Atmos/DTS:X system
Uses nine speakers for Front Left and Right, Centre, Surround Left and Right, Surround Back Left and Right, and Height Left and Right:
Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows (these are the default settings):
- Front L&R – Front
- Center – ON
- Surround L&R – ON
- Height L&R – Top Middle
- Surr. Back L&R – Surr. Back
Then connect up the speakers, following the R and L labels on the back panel for each pair of speakers.
5.1.4 Atmos/DTS:X system
Uses nine speakers for Front Left and Right, Centre, Surround Left and Right, and Height Front Left and Right, and the Surround Back speaker outputs are reassigned to Height Back Left and Right:
Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:
- Front L&R – Front
- Center – ON
- Surround L&R – ON
- Height L&R – Top Middle
- Surr. Back L&R – Top Rear
Then connect up the speakers, following the R and L labels on the back panel for each pair of speakers.
7.1.4 Atmos system
Uses 11 speakers for Front Left and Right, Centre, Surround Left and Right, Surround Back Left and Right, and Height Front Left and Right, and Height Rear Left and Right. It uses a separate amplifier, such as the Primare A35.2, for the front speakers:
Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:
- Front L&R – Top Rear
- Center – ON
- Surround L&R – ON
- Height L&R – Top Middle
- Surr. Back L&R – Surr. Back
Then connect up a separate stereo amplifier, such as a Primare A35.2, for the front speakers as follows:
- Connect the FRONT PRE/LINE outputs from the SPA25 to the Left and Right line inputs on the A35.2.
- Connect the Left and Right speaker outputs from the A35.2 the Front Left and Right speakers.
