Speaker Configurations

This section describes some typical speaker configurations that you can choose with the SP25. For details of setting up each configuration see the next chapter Setting up speakers.

Note: In the following diagrams the connection to each stereo pair of loudspeakers is shown as a single line, for clarity. Follow the R and L labels on the back panel when connecting each loudspeaker in a pair.

2.0 Stereo system

Uses speakers for Front Left and Front Right:

Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:

  • Center – OFF
  • Surround L&R – OFF
  • Subwoofer – OFF
  • Surr. Back – OFF
  • Height Front L&R – OFF
  • Height Back L&R – OFF

Then connect up the speakers as follows:

  • Connect the FRONT 1 Left and FRONT 1 Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Front Left and Right speakers.

2.0 Bi-Amp system

Allows you to bi-amp to Front Left and Front Right speakers with separate bass and treble units:

Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:

  • Center – OFF
  • Surround L&R – OFF
  • Subwoofer – OFF
  • Surr. Back – OFF
  • Height Front L&R – OFF
  • Height Back L&R – OFF

Then connect up the speakers as follows:

  • Connect the FRONT 1 Left and FRONT 1 Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the bass units of the Front Left and Right speakers, and the FRONT 2 Left and FRONT 2 Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the treble units of the Front Left and Right speakers.

5.1 Dolby/DTS system

Uses speakers for Front Left, Front Right, and Centre, and Surround Left and Right:

Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:

  • Center – ON
  • Surround L&R – ON
  • Subwoofer – ON
  • Surr. Back – OFF
  • Height Front L&R – OFF
  • Height Back L&R – OFF

Then connect up the speakers as follows:

  • Connect the FRONT 1 Left and FRONT 1 Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Front Left and Right speakers.
  • Connect the SURR Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Surround Back speakers.
  • Full Range is default setting, if crossover needs to be applied see Setting up speakers: Crossover

5.1 Bi-Amp system

Bi-Amps to the Front Left and Right speakers, and provides Centre, and Surround Left and Right:

Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:

  • Center – ON
  • Surround L&R – ON
  • Subwoofer – ON
  • Surr. Back – OFF
  • Height Front L&R – OFF
  • Height Back L&R – OFF

Then connect up the speakers as follows:

  • Connect the FRONT 1 Left and FRONT 1 Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the bass units of the Front Left and Right speakers, and the FRONT 2 Left and FRONT 2 Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the treble units of the Front Left and Right speakers.
  • Connect the SURR Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Surround Back speakers.
  • Full Range is default setting, if crossover needs to be applied see Setting up speakers: Crossover

7.1 Dolby/DTS system

Uses speakers for Front Left and Right, Centre, Surround Left and Right, and Surround Back Left and Right:

Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:

  • Center – ON
  • Surround L&R – ON
  • Subwoofer – ON
  • Surr. Back – ON
  • Height Front L&R – OFF
  • Height Back L&R – OFF

Then connect up the speakers as follows:

  • Connect the FRONT 1 Left and FRONT 1 Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Front Left and Right speakers.
  • Connect the CENTER ANALOG OUT connection to an amplifier driving the Center speaker.
  • Connect the SURR Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Surround Side speakers.
  • Connect the SURR BACK Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Surround Back speakers.
  • Full Range is default setting, if crossover needs to be applied see Setting up speakers: Crossover

7.1 Bi-Amp system

Bi-Amps to the Front Left and Right speakers, and provides Centre, Surround Left and Right, and Surround Back Left and Right:

Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:

  • Center – ON
  • Surround L&R – ON
  • Subwoofer – ON
  • Surr. Back – ON
  • Height Front L&R – OFF
  • Height Back L&R – OFF

Then connect up the speakers as follows:

  • Connect the FRONT 1 Left and FRONT 1 Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the bass units of the Front Left and Right speakers, and the FRONT 2 Left and FRONT 2 Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the treble units of the Front Left and Right speakers.
  • Connect the CENTER ANALOG OUT connection to an amplifier driving the Center speaker.
  • Connect the SURR Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Surround Side speakers.
  • Connect the SURR BACK Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Surround Back speakers.
  • Set the crossover frequency for the Front Left, Front Right, Height Left, and Height Right speakers to Full Range, to use the crossovers in the speakers; see Setting up speakers: Crossover.
  • Full Range is default setting, if crossover needs to be applied see Setting up speakers: Crossover

    5.1.2 Dolby Atmos/DTS:X system

    Uses speakers for Front Left and Right, Centre, Surround Left and Right, and Height Left and Right:

    Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:

    • Center – ON
    • Surround L&R – ON
    • Subwoofer – ON
    • Surr. Back – OFF
    • Height Front L&R – ON
    • Height Back L&R – OFF

    Then connect up the speakers as follows:

    • Connect the FRONT 1 Left and FRONT 1 Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Front Left and Right speakers.
    • Connect the CENTER ANALOG OUT connection to an amplifier driving the Center speaker.
    • Connect the SURR Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Surround Back speakers.
    • Connect the HEIGHT FRONT Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the TOP MIDDLE speakers.
    • Full Range is default setting, if crossover needs to be applied see Setting up speakers: Crossover

    7.1.2 Atmos/DTS:X system

    Uses nine speakers for Front Left and Right, Centre, Surround Left and Right, Surround Back Left and Right, and Height Left and Right:

    Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows (these are the default settings):

    • Center – ON
    • Surround L&R – ON
    • Subwoofer – ON
    • Surr. Back – ON
    • Height Front L&R – ON
    • Height Back L&R – OFF

    Then connect up the speakers as follows:

    • Connect the FRONT 1 Left and FRONT 1 Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Front Left and Right speakers.
    • Connect the CENTER ANALOG OUT connection to an amplifier driving the Center speaker.
    • Connect the SURR Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Surround Side speakers.
    • Connect the SURR BACK Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Surround Back speakers.
    • Connect the HEIGHT FRONT Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the TOP MIDDLE speakers.
    • Full Range is default setting, if crossover needs to be applied see Setting up speakers: Crossover

    5.1.4 Atmos/DTS:X system

    Uses nine speakers for Front Left and Right, Centre, Surround Left and Right, and Height Front Left and Right, and the Height Back Left and Right:

    Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:

    • Center – ON
    • Surround L&R – ON
    • Subwoofer – ON
    • Surr. Back – OFF
    • Height Front L&R – ON
    • Height Back L&R – ON

    Then connect up the speakers as follows:

    • Connect the FRONT 1 Left and FRONT 1 Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Front Left and Right speakers.
    • Connect the CENTER ANALOG OUT connection to an amplifier driving the Center speaker.
    • Connect the SURR Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Surround speakers.
    • Connect the HEIGHT FRONT Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Height Front speakers.
    • Connect the HEIGHT BACK Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Height Back speakers.
    • Full Range is default setting, if crossover needs to be applied see Setting up speakers: Crossover

    7.1.4 Atmos system

    Uses 11 speakers for Front Left and Right, Centre, Surround Left and Right, Surround Back Left and Right, and Height Front Left and Right, and Height Rear Left and Right.

    Set the options in the Speaker Setup menu as follows:

    • Center – ON
    • Surround L&R – ON
    • Subwoofer – ON
    • Surr. Back – ON
    • Height Front L&R – ON
    • Height Back L&R – ON

    Then connect up the speakers as follows:

    • Connect the FRONT 1 Left and FRONT 1 Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Front Left and Right speakers.
    • Connect the CENTER ANALOG OUT connection to an amplifier driving the Center speaker.
    • Connect the SURR Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Surround Side speakers.
    • Connect the SURR BACK Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Surround Back speakers.
    • Connect the HEIGHT FRONT Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Height Front speakers.
    • Connect the HEIGHT BACK Left and Right ANALOG OUT connections to amplifiers driving the Height Back speakers.
